Owning companies within the same chain as production means the major company gets to make money at every stage of production and distribution. Complete ownership = more profit and control.

Buying companies at the same level of distribution allows companies to widen their audience and find other ways to make money.

-Disney used synergy with The Lion King because its had multiple versions of the film and its had its own show on the Disney channel. 
-Sega used synergy with Sonic as it started of as a game then turned into a movie and theres 2 versions of this movie.
-Nintendo used synergy with Mario as it started of as a video game with multiple different types to making that game into a movie.

6) What is convergence and what device has changed the relationship between audiences and producers? 

Convergence is when all different types of media can be accessed on one device. It attracts all types of audience because being able to access all types of media on one device is world wide.

7) Why did Facebook buy Instagram for $1bn? Answer in as much detail as possible

Facebook bought Instagram because Facebook used to be the biggest type of social media but realised that Instagram was gaining a lot of popularity so Facebook bought them while they were still a subsidiary so they didn't loose any profit and now they make double because they are the owner of Instagram.
