A smaller company owned by a major media company.

3) What are the benefits for media companies of vertical integration?

Owning companies within the same chain as production means the major company gets to make money at every stage of production and distribution. Complete ownership = more profit and control.

4) What are the benefits for media companies of horizontal integration?

Buying companies at the same level of distribution allows companies to widen their audience and find other ways to make money.

5) Give three examples of media companies or brands that have used synergy to maximise their profits. There are examples in the notes above to help you.

-Disney used synergy with The Lion King because its had multiple versions of the film and its had its own show on the Disney channel. 
-Sega used synergy with Sonic as it started of as a game then turned into a movie and theres 2 versions of this movie.
-Nintendo used synergy with Mario as it started of as a video game with multiple different types to making that game into a movie.

6) What is convergence and what device has changed the relationship between audiences and producers? 

Convergence is when all different types of media can be accessed on one device. It attracts all types of audience because being able to access all types of media on one device is world wide.

7) Why did Facebook buy Instagram for $1bn? Answer in as much detail as possible

Facebook bought Instagram because Facebook used to be the biggest type of social media but realised that Instagram was gaining a lot of popularity so Facebook bought them while they were still a subsidiary so they didn't loose any profit and now they make double because they are the owner of Instagram.

Denotation and connotation

  1. In this photo i can see an advert about needing toilets(clean water).  2. In this advert the setting and the poor face the child is making is denotation and this connotates how this child is in need of clean toilets as this add is by "water aid" a company which helps countries that dont have clean water and helps raise money for them.  3. The effect this advert will have on the audience is that they will see the state that certain people are in and want to donate and want to help. 1. Camera movement and editing

1) Pick  three   aspects of  camera movement  in the Minority Report clip. Identify the  type  of camera movement and write about why the director chose to use that camera movement in the scene and what effect it has on the audience. The camera movement at the start of the scene was slow steady and fits the relaxed atmosphere. Until the camera cuts from the plane to the airport and the hand camera angle slowly starts to zooms onto a person signify that this person could be the main character. After the camera cuts to a scene where the main character is being chased out of a subway station and stuck in a dark alley being followed by a hand camera which vibrates in a fixed potion adding tension to the scene to make it seem highly realistic.
