Camera movement and editing

1) Pick three aspects of camera movement in the Minority Report clip. Identify the type of camera movement and write about why the director chose to use that camera movement in the scene and what effect it has on the audience.

The camera movement at the start of the scene was slow steady and fits the relaxed atmosphere. Until the camera cuts from the plane to the airport and the hand camera angle slowly starts to zooms onto a person signify that this person could be the main character. After the camera cuts to a scene where the main character is being chased out of a subway station and stuck in a dark alley being followed by a hand camera which vibrates in a fixed potion adding tension to the scene to make it seem highly realistic. During the alley scene the main character is fighting with the police and climbs up a building and the crane camera angle varies from low to high showing the audience the main character is in danger as the camera movement slowly starts to speed up in sync with the characters movement. The camera continues to be carried by a crane through out this scene of this on foot speed chase. This keeps the audience on edge and creates an idea that danger or something terrible may happen.

2) Pick two aspects of editing in the Minority Report clip and write about what effect it has on the audience.

The pace of the editing increases during the chase with a series of rapid cuts to signify the danger and drama to the audience. There was then a close up on the police juxtaposed with a shot of them holding the main character while flying in the air with the use of their jet-pack. This tells the audience these two are the main characters in this scene and they decide what happens next.

3) Finally, revise last week's work on camerawork by picking out two shots or camera angles in the clip that communicate meaning to the audience.

The camera tilt angle communicates to the audience who may be a hero or villain in a film or series. Handheld camera mostly used in scenes to signify danger or to create a type of realism to a characters movement.
