Galaxy advert

 1) What key conventions of TV advertising can you find in the Galaxy advert?

-Sound(music)
-Logo and slogan
-Dialogue
-CGI
-Mise-en-scene
-Camera shots
- Narrative

2) What is the key message the Galaxy advert is communicating about its chocolate? The slogan for the advert will help you with this question.

I think the slogan "why have cotton when you can have silk?", means that when Hepburn was on the bus and she was a bout to eat the chocolate she was in a comfortable place 'cotton' but when she was in the mans car and she was eating the chocolate 'silk' means that this chocolate is best when your in the most comfortable place.

3) Who is Audrey Hepburn and why did Galaxy select Audrey Hepburn for this advert?

Audrey Hepburn was a huge Hollywood star in the 1950s-1960s and she was associated with the Hollywood glamour and style. Galaxy used her for their adverted because seen how she was respected when she was alive and everyone knew who she was; her being in this advert would bring a type of nostalgia to those who were big fans of her so the advert would be attracting a lot of attention.

4) In your own words, what is intertextuality?

Intertextuality is when a media post uses a reference from another media post for example stranger things(1080s pop culture references) and The Lion King (based on hamlet).

6) Which of Propp's character types are can be found in the advert and how do they change? (Note: just choose two or three character types that are definitely used in the advert - it does not use all seven).

The 'hero' in the advert is the car driver because he saves Hepburn for being stuck on the bus and helps her carry on with her journey. The 'heroine' is Hepburn because she gets rescued by the 'hero'. The 'villain' is the fruit vendor because he drops his fruit in the road stopping the bus and Hepburn's journey.

7) How does the advert's narrative (story) follow Todorov's theory of equilibrium?

The equilibrium was when Hepburn was on the bus going on a journey and there's a vendor selling fruits on the road side. The disequilibrium was when the vendor dropped his fruits in the road causing Hepburn's journey to stop in the middle of nowhere. The new equilibrium was when Hepburn takes of the bus driver's hat giving it to the car driver giving him the label as Hepburn's new chauffeur as they drive away.

8) What representation of celebrity can be found in this advert? Think about how Audrey Hepburn is presented.

The stereotype of Hepburn's character in the advert was that she is the main character and the focus is going to mainly be around her seen as she was a huge celebrity.
